Poor service from Walsh Western

Written lovingly by Jake Stride

We ordered a laptop from Dell for a client last week and still haven’t received it, even though it was dispatched from their Coventry depot 3 days ago.

It is just annoying and rude, that we have to chase them up to find out what is going on with the package. The original delay was due to their delivery van breaking down - I found this out from their online system, which isn’t updated in real time, the following day after we had waited all day for the package. All it would have taken is a phone call to us to let us know about the delay - thats we did with our client and they were OK with this.

The problem then got worse by the fact that the driver forgot to load the package the following day for redelivery. Yet again they didn’t inform us of this and their web system didn’t update with this info until the following day and I had to spend 25 minutes on hold to find this out.

The laptop is due to turn up in the next hour so fingers crossed they can deliver it on the third attempt. It is so frustrating when large companies like this mess you around - there is very little that we can do as they have the product that we ordered and there is no way that we can take out business elsewhere. All in all I am completely unhappy with the service, and the £25 we have to pay Dell for the shipping.

I am having the same issue. I bought a new laptop on friday evening, told that it will not get to me in 3 weeks. I’m ok with this because I knew about it even before buying. My surprise on Monday morning is it has been made and shipped. according to the Walsh Western tracker it took only 10 hours from pick up to cross to England. It has been sitting in a warehouse (Hub) for 30 hrs, with no phone call from them to “arrange a convenient delivery time!”. This hub is nowhere near me. I am not holding my breath for a rapid smooth sailing delivery. No doubt dell have gone with the lowest bidder on this as well.

I forgot to add. When I called them to arrange a drop off, they have one of those stupid computer phone messaging system. When I put in the correct responses it tells me to call Dell for a delivery time!

Same problem - spent 2 whole days being promised delivery by WW and no show - system says ‘customer not home - card left’ but no card and no show - will cancel entire order today from Dell. Dell must get their delivery right - I guess the kit is bouncing around a warehouse/van somewhere in England

I have the same problem my delivery date was Tuesday the 4th of march, I waited in all day and no-one arrived, so i contacted dell and Walsh western and was told it would be delivered on Wednesday.
Again i waited in all day and nothing so i checked the tracking website and it said the customer was not in and the delivery driver posted a card to say he had been. I had received nothing of the sort no knock at the door or card left at my home. So i began to think ok the driver is delivering it to the street next to mine with a similar name all he needs is sat nav.
I contacted both companies via e-mail, since im always put on hold for over 10 minutes. and just got a e-mail from ww saying they’d chase up the problem, But that’s all i got from them for that whole day.
On Thursday i stayed in on the off chance, no one rang me to say there would be a delivery or anything, when i checked track and trace apparently the driver was at my door and had posted another card, well there was nothing at my house again, so now i can say for sure that he’s going to the wrong house, I stated this on my e-mail and called them early Friday morning, sure enough i was on hold for which seemed a lifetime, eventually i got to talk to someone and they said it would be delivered today. Well you guessed it nothing has arrived, and it is truly disgraceful especially when delivery is £51!!!

All I can say is ditto to Hayley, I think Walsh Western have been taken over by some other outfit recently and all their systems have gone to bollocks as I’ve waited in all day waiting for my Dell to arrive… it arrived at my local depot at 9am this morning according to the tracking and is now “on hold” at the depot. Not sure what this means but it’s really annoying and amateur. Dell really ought to get shot of Walsh Western.

Same problem. On delivery 13th at 11.48, nothing at this time

I am yet another unhappy customer thanks to Western Walsh making me waste a day off work waiting in for a non existant delivery.

I’m not prepared to tolerate this appaling service so I have cancelled my laptop from Dell and told them to blame their courier.

My advice is NOT to chase WW who are experts at evasion and excuses… your contract of sale is with Dell and it is Dells responsibility to fulfill the delivery on time. If enough people remind Dell of this (as I did) they will stop using this useless courier if they want our business.

I’m off to PC world where I can walk out of the door with a laptop and not waste more time waiting in for a useless courier.

  9. Kelly said the following at March 20th, 2008 at 10:57 pm :

    Yep me too!

I saw this morning that the Dell website said my order was ‘out for delivery’ - checked up on the Walsh Western tracking link they provided me and it said out for delivery from 7.53am this morning. As the delivery depot is only a few miles from me I cancelled my day and began waiting… and waiting… and waiting. Nothing yet.

What I want to know is how our EXPENSIVE, and invaluable business orders are being stored by these cowboys? Is it a man with a van, so to speak? Are our items safe while they are being stored over night? Why would the depot release them if they arent going to be delivered that day? What the hell are Dell doing charging me £60 for delivery if they cant even be bothered to deliver it?

Whats the point of giving us a tracking number and popping a load of BS on the screen for us to muse over if they arent going to bother delivering anyway?

They better not pull that ‘I left a card’ cr*p with me! I have 24 hour cctv and will gladly submit the tapes to trading standards, Dell and who ever else I can get involved. I didnt even know there was a problem until I read this thread, but obviously these people are total idiots. If it doesnt come tommorow I’ll be going to Tesco - I can get virtually the same machine in their half price sale for £50 less, with clubcard points and better service. At least I know it hasnt been sitting in someones shed for 24 hours.

    Disgusted.

No wonder Dell has such a bad reputation lately. They need to step up, become responsible and sort this rubbish out so that customers are truely getting what they are paying for - especially when theres a £60 postage fee involved!

Well I finally got a full refund from Dell, 3 weeks after they took the money from my credit card account despite me cancelling my order and specifically telling them NOT to take any money from it. I had to threaten them with a County Court summons to get it mind and even then they only left 1 days grace before me issuing them with the summons.

What an utter shambles this whole thing has been. I would NEVER ever buy a Dell product again. The courier Western Walsh messed up and lost Dell the order in the first place by not meeting a delivery day, but then Dell compounded the situation by taking money I told them not to, and then being very evasive about refunding it.

    My advice to prospective purchasers:

    1. Don’t buy from Dell while they continue to use their useless courier.
    2. Don’t be messed around by either of them. Give them written notice of cancellation if they don’t meet a delivery day, and give them written notice of a County Court summons if they are evasive about giving a refund.
    3. We British take poor service for granted and in my opinion the companies take advantage of this. It’s time we stopped allowing them to do this as only then will the service we receive from them improve.
    4. Buy a Sony laptop like I did from a high street retailer (they will negotiate a discount if you ask).

    Good luck to you all.

I ordered a laptop from Dell last Thursday. By Friday it was built and in the Walsh Western delivery System over the weekend. On Monday I received an automated call saying it would be delivered on Tuesday and I had an option to take delivery am or pm (I selected am). The laptop arrived safe and sound at 11am as promised. At all times I was kept accurately (and promptly) in the picture as to the atatus of the delivery via the Dell link to the WW website.

an excellent service from WW and the laptop (XPS 1530) is pretty good too.

We get loads of deliveries and I have only praise for Dell and it’s incredible tracking delivery service. If we want something we order it before we really need it.
Tracking is supposed to take the irk out of much wanted goods. Instead it creates impatience and a lot of unreal expectations.

I am also having a nightmare experience awaiting the delivery of my Dell Laptop. Originally asigned for delivery 2 days ago I took the morning off work and waited home. Nothing arrived so I called Welsh Western and was told that it had been delivered to the wrong hub. A new delivery date was arranged for yesterday and it never appeared. A further call was made and an apology given however it was pointed out that the mistake had been made at the depot and not by the chap on the phone. A third date was arranged for this morning and once again nothing has arrived. The office is closed so I am not going to be able to contact them now until Monday. A disgraceful service and if it doesn’t arrive on Monday I will cancel my order and request a full refund.

  17. Jane B said the following at April 26th, 2008 at 4:05 pm :

I’ve also had the same problem this week. Original delivery day was Wednesday for which I took the afternoon off work; it never arrived and no indication that it was not going to turn up. I rearranged for this morning. They tried to deliver on Thursday (no-one home… yes, that’s why I requested Saturday.. - we’re working to earn the money to pay for this stuff, including delivery charges…) I called the depot Thursday evening to make sure it would be delivered today and phoned again twice this morning as I suspected the courier needed babysitting to make sure I didn’t have another wasted day. They assured me it was on its way, if potentially a little late. It hasn’t arrived. I’m livid. By the time I get it I suspect the technology will be obsolete and we’ll all be travelling in flying cars. I have complained via email to Dell and Walsh Western and requested a refund for the delivery charge. The courier, Business Post, seems to be most at fault but the responsibility must lie with Dell for selecting separate logistics and courier companies with god knows how many sub-contractors. It’s very difficult to find anyone who cares enough about the customer to bother to provide a decent service. Next time perhaps I will go to a nice actual shop where I can see the merchandise physically exists.

actually you’re all wrong and need to find something better to do than rant and rave about a company you know nothing about. Walsh western put your dell order together and sub contract their deliveries out to hauliers such as business post, tnt, uk today and lynx if you want to rant about someone then why not start on them.

  19. Jake Stride said the following at April 29th, 2008 at 7:21 pm :

I’m fully aware of how the process works as a Dell VAR. It is Walsh Western that manage the process and their brand that represents the whole shipping process. Most of the time orders get stuck at the Walsh Western hub before they have gone out to the other couriers.

  20. Steve said the following at April 30th, 2008 at 12:07 pm :

My order has been stuck in WW for the last 5 days. I’m really annoyed with Dell and WW. No contact from anyone.

I bought this for personal use but usually buy a lot of servers through dell. It takes them less then 5 days to build a custom server and get it to my companies door step.

Just shows if you’re listed as a home user you get shafted. I’ll be looking at HP in future.

Well, here’s hoping there is at least a card waiting for me when I get home from work tonight to say delivery has been attempted. Was originally told delivery would be made before 8/05/08 (orderd 26/04/08). Checked on the Dell online system as to status of order few days ago and said had been passed to Walsh Western for delivery. Checked WW and said order is out for delivery today, as of 0921am having arrived at my local delivery hub as 0846am(for whichever courier WW has contracted out to fulfil the delivery). So am expecting to be able to have this redelivered to my work address either today or tomorrow hopefully. Will keep updating….not holding out much hope though having read some of the comments above about other peoples experiences….

I ordered a laptop from Dell on 23/04/08. I checked Dells site a few times a day and today and it has been built/tested and dispatched all in one day. Strange thing is, on Walsh Westerns web site at 9pm when i checked it, it said:
    Date Time Location Activity
    01/05/08 23:59 RAHEEN DEPARTED EMF.

It seems to have left 3 hours in advance.

This does not look like a good start, it’s like they just make things up in case Dell happen to check the progress of a package

  23. Struan said the following at May 2nd, 2008 at 2:17 pm :

UPDATE: Businesspost (contracted by Walsh Western, who are now called Syncreon after they merged with TDS Logistics)attempted delivery of my dell laptop yesterday afternoon, and they did leave a card to say this. Called the company when I got home in the evening to try and rearrange delivery to my work address (as I would be available to sign for the package in person etc, instead of missing the courier again when they attempted delivery to my home address again today), and they stated this was not allowed for some reason ? They said they could either redeliver to my home address again (useless as I am never in during the day) or I could collect from the depot, which is pretty annoying as it is pretty far away from me….and I have paid for delivery. I did ask Dell at the time of the order if it was possible to get the package redelivered to my business address if it turned out I missed the courier at home and they said this was no problem, but on speaking to the courier yesterday, they said it was under Dell’s instructions that “deliveries of consignments to addresses other than the orignal delivery address was strictly forbidden”. Oh well, guess I will get my new laptop sometime, off my own back though….

I got my order okay within the set timescale but the packing cases had large holes punched in them. I dare say they had been fairly roughly handled but there was no internal damage that I could see and the computer was NOT “dead on arrival.” I would say that Dell have realised that computers are not going to be spared rough handling and have prepared for it. One up to Dell; three down to Walsh Western. Better luck next time guys. At £60 for delivery, it is a rip-off. I used to moan at delivery charges of £20 (without the holes).

I guess Walsh must be having some top notch scientists who have developed a time machine.

Bloody porkies - if it doesnt arrive in 3 days time, Dell’s lost my order.

I ordered an inspiron a while ago, i was told that i could view the delivery process online. At somepoint the online screen says that it is basically up to walsh western to keep you informed of when the delivery is due. So i rang walsh western and they informed me that the delivery would be on the next day. I took a day off work to wait for it, but by 1:30pm i figured that the delivery wasn’t happening. I rang walsh western and i was told that the package was at the wrong hub and this would be put right so that the delivery could come on the next day (again). Again the same thing happened, i rang again and i was told that the delivery van had broken down and wouldn’t be able to deliver the inspiron today. Great so far. I was obviously told that the package would come on the next day (which is now a saturday - today). Earlier on i found out that walsh western don’t deliver on saturdays or sundays. This service is ridiculous. i don’t mind the wait, i figured there would be one. But it’s the lack of customer service, the feeling that the woman i spoke to didn’t even know herself what was going on so had to back it up with, well, lies. I thoroughly expected about a weeks or more wait which i wouldn’t of minded. I would just prefer to be told that than taking days off work for no reason. I don’t think i’ll be getting my package on monday, probably because it’ll be already all booked up, due to the act that mine was supposed to be delivered today. So here’s hoping for tuesday. Walsh Western could have at least the ability to say that the delivery may take a week.

But yesterday morning at 8.20am I got the answer phone message from the walshwesteren courier - both my mobile rang and landline - told me delivery was today before 1pm - - success it came at 10.50am today >>>> no problem at all - this is my second time using dell and again - faultless - cant fault the carrier either in my case A++++++

I have to agree they are possibly the worst courier service out there and this is the third time I have had to use them. Be very aware when ordering anything that has to be delivered by these couriers, this includes DELL products. 3 people from business post took my phone number and assured me that someone would call within an hour of arrival and that a PM delivery would most likely be late PM. After taking a half day off work I noticed at 5.30 on the tracking website that they attempted delivery at 12:00 noon though they left no calling card. Literally seconds after it be came a PM delivery. Avoid at all costs

Like you, I too have problems with this company. I was told my laptop would be delivered between 8am & 1pm today the 12th.I took the morning off work, which I couldnt really afford but they would not deliver to my place of work. After various phone calls & emails I was told by Dell that the driver had a problem before he left the depot. I tried phoning the depot but there was no answer. Eventually, after sending Dell a stinker of an email I had a phone call from the driver saying he hadnt delivered in Eastbourne before and didnt know it at all and did I still want them to deliver that day as they might be at least an hour. I told him “you bet your life I want it today”. He did not sound very happy as I think he probably thought he would get away with it. It is now 4.30pm and it looks as though I should get my laptop by 5.30ish, fingers crossed but from above comments I dont hold out much hope.
I know I will never use Dell again. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired, second only to Walsh Weston.

The second lie says 10:39 IVR-OUTBOUND AM DEL. SCHEDULED DELIVERY DATE - which basically means they made a phone callto arrange delivery ( They didnt )
Then all of sudden its in Hinckley (15:17)
It now says its been returned to Hub - usually means it will never be seen again.

Just sent an email to Dell telling them to arrange a different courier.

So - they can get it right sometimes.

I’ve waited in all morning for a delivery agreed with someone at Syncreon on 22nd August after receiving a ‘failed delivery’ email which included the threat of returning the inspiron we’d ordered to Ireland with a charge of £20. Apparently they attempted to deliver the order on the 14th and 15th August and messages were left on the phone (none were received) and that cards were left both times (none were received). The Dell web site promised a link to the courier so that we could track our order (placed on 11th August) but no link ever appeared. We eventually found out that the courier was Syncreon when we rang to complain on the 22nd. When I then tried to access Syncreon’s order tracker, it didn’t recognise my account and order number and it was only when I googled this blog today that I found out that you have to put 02 in place of GB on the order number to gain access. Hooray, light in the darkness. There were the deliveries on the 14th and 15th, how much easier if we’d had access to this prior to the delivery!!! I’ve been on the phone to Ireland and India several times since 12 today and apparently, there’s a backlog because of the bank holiday (Ireland) and according to India, our order is stuck in heavy traffic, even though according to the Syncreon’s tracking site, it appears not to have left the depot. Thing is, Syncreon/Walsh Western were aware of the pending bank holiday when they promised delivery on 27th so why promise a delivery they couldn’t fulfil meaning I’ve lost ad day’s holiday and effectively racking up the cost of the order. It isn’t looking quite the bargain I thought it was. We are now about to cancel the order and wish to make an effective formal complaint. A previous emailed complaint was just forwarded by Dell to Syncreon and somehow I suspect that this will now have been filed in the Recycle bin. Any suggestions?

I didn’t get a phone call but they did deliver on the promised day (and I’m out in the sticks) at 1043. Tracking was very easy. No complaints. Excellent service.

I’ve ordered goods from Dell before (both for home and for the company I work for) with generally no delivery problems. So at the beginning of last week I placed an order for one of their widescreen ultrasharp monitors. On previous occasions I have found their tracking system very good. Last Friday the system showed that this would be delivered am Wednesday 27th August. I took the day off work yesterday to await delivery - this did not happen so at 1.15 I checked the tracking system again and to my amazement it was stating that it had been delivered at 11.00 by what I assumed was a sub-contractor to Walsh Western by the name of Carrington. I had been in all morning and I know that no one had attempted delivery. I tried phoning Walsh Western and all I got after submitting my Dell order number was an automated message saying it had been delivered at 11.00. I then phoned Dell and they said they would get in contact with the courier who would contact me. I have wasted the whole of yesterday and still have not heard any news of when this might be delivered.

  48. Marie said the following at August 28th, 2008 at 10:58 am :

Know how you feel Rod. Dell (Ireland) promised delivery between 8 and nine this morning and it didn’t arrive. When we checked on Walsh/Western tracker, it said they had attempted delivery and no one was at home so left a card. This is such nonsense, we were at home and had even left the front door open. Dell said that delivery had been attempted and that our house had a brown front door - information from the carrier I assume. We actually have a green front door! When Dell contacted the carrier again, it was to be told this time, that the goods were still in the warehouse. The carrier is BPO Newcastle so I rang direct and when I queried this morning’s ‘failed delivery’ on the WW’s tracker, they said this had been a mistake. The tracker now says the goods are on delivery. This is now two wasted days of our holiday.
The only mistake in this whole sorry saga is us ordering a Dell online. Never again.

I have the same sorry tale!
Received call (elctronic) asking delivery preference
so nominated am before 12 noon delivery on 28th August. According to Walsh Western tracking my Dell Laptop was passed on to Business Post Thames Valley which is in Thatcham. As Im only in Hungerford, this should be a no brainer, or so I thought! Now 5pm no sign of delivery, just called Business post in Thatcham to be told they themselves have sub contracted it out to a 1 man in a van type and surprise cant get a hold of this driver!
Dell really should get a grip of the deliveries, obviosly Walsh Western are not up to the task! and neither are Walsh Westerns sub contractors Business Post, who themselves contract out to operators (bet Dell dont know about that)

I ordered my new Dell PC on 9/9/08 and was initially advised by Dell that delivery was likely to be 19/09/08. Imagine my surprise when I checked the Walsh Western Track and Trace to see an indication that it would be delivered AM 12/09/08. What a good service I thought! Surprise further compounded by the automated phone call to confirm delivery for AM 12/09/08. Then things went pear-shaped. Been waiting in all day, now 3.35pm and no PC. Have spoken to WW who have said it is on a complete pallet that left the Hinckley hub last night to go to the Business Post depot in Portsmouth (nearest to home)only to end up at the Business Post deport in Runcorn! Even I don’t need Sat Nav to tell me that is the wrong end of the country!! Business Post claim they cannot undo the pallet to get my delivery sent down overnight and have now been booked in for a Monday evening delivery slot (5pm -9pm). Thing is though, not a single courtesy telephone call to tell me delivery would not be coming today. I wouldn’t be so angry if only they could have had the decency to do that - they would have known first thing this morning that my order was not in the Portsmouth depot! Moral of the story…anybody on the South Coast who is expecting a delivery of Dell equipment today, don’t waste your breath. The goods are in Cheshire, not Hampshire.

I just got to work to find they left two messages on my phone here at gone 6.00 last Friday. Very good seeing as how I had been at home Thursday and Friday waiting for a delivery that never happened and they never once rang me on my home or mobile number - both of which they had.

    Don’t Lose Heart!!

I stumbled on this website ever since I began googling the enigmatic ‘Call Lock Out’ from WW.

I’m actually typing from my hardly 1-day old Dell Studio 17 and yes, surprisingly enough, I must say that I am entirely pleased with the whole order and delivery process. Or maybe I was just lucky (this time at least):

Ordered on the 8th Oct 2008 after acquiring a lease from DFS.
Delivered today 17th Oct 2008…so 9 days in total.
Chose am delivery but I was worried that I might not be able to stay until 13 00 because I had to leave for uni.
So woke up around 07 00, was about to go make some tea when the doorbell rang…believe it or not, the guys were already here with the laptop! One hour before the AM slot (08 00 - 13 00)!!

By the way, I live in Lewisham, South East London and when I checked, WW tracking service had put my box at Dartford (from hinckley) at 06 00 or so.

Anyway, just wanted to point out thst in most cases, the whole process seems to go quite smoothly, except for some of the unfortunate isolated cases above.

So, good luck and stop worrying! It might just work out fine!

  66. Bryan Smith said the following at October 20th, 2008 at 8:59 am :

    Hi all,
It is still a great mystery to me that a company the size of Dell can provide such a mixed service, not just on delivery, but on the whole process.

I ordered an XPS630 online, but when I got the order confirmation the graphics card had been changed from a GTX280 to a dual 9800GT setup. Granted they sorted it out when I called CS, and honoured the price, but it was a fight! They wanted me to pay an additional £200 initially.

Anyway, I received an automated phone call this morning to inform me that my XPS should arrive tomorrow and this after only 6 days including the weekend. Fingers crossed for the delivery, I’ll let you know.

    Bryan.

  67. Bryan Smith said the following at October 20th, 2008 at 9:13 am :

Thanks to ravi for the WW number, I called and have confirmed with their automatic service, a delivery for all day tomorrow (Dell quoted 8-13),

    Bryan.

Wish I had found this site before buying a Dell. I bought a scratched/dented item off Dell Outlet on ebay because we were having to wait so long for Dell to build the one we had ordered and paid for on their main site. You would think that this would be idiot proof wouldn’t you? They obviously have the laptop as the spec is listed on ebay. So put it in a box and send it. Not so easy for Dell. My order progressed slowly through all the stages of a custom built item and then was finally released to Walsh Western. They quoted a delivery date but on the day claimed thet we were not home. (We are a pub and were very much open at 1400hrs!). Then they had an address query so I emailed confirming the address. Funny that; so where did they leave the card when I wasn’t home! Now the package spends each day being checked into the “hub” but never seems to get anywhere. Dell don’t reply to emails and nor do walsh western so I have instigated a dispute with paypal………..

No sign of anything by 2 p.m. so rang on number given by Ravi October 14th. Told had been an attempted delivery no answer also that driver telephoned - completely untrue (as confirmed by 1471 check). Promised will retry within 1.5 hours. Looks like the negative feedback on this site is true. The pepole who answer the phone go by the name of Synchrion, so who’s accountable for this mess is anyone’s guess.

Apparently no attempt to phone me to get directions. Depot say that they will send him out again tomorrow with a map!!!!! Haven’t these people heard of Sat Nav!?? Luckly a family member who arranged a discount for us is very high up with dell and has said he will make some phone calls for me

  79. Simon said the following at November 15th, 2008 at 2:23 am :

Just to update my saga………when I called Dell to cancel the order I suddenly started getting emails from Walsh/Syncreon claiming that they had tried to deliver three times. When I responded that this seemed unlikely as I live above my business and am therefore here 24 hours a day they changed tack to saying they couldn’t find me (despite having delivered another item the previous week)and could I provide them with my address! When I asked why they hadn’t called me they claimed that their drivers didn’t have phones! (or, it seems, sat nav!).
BTW over 10 days and no refund from Dell (just an email from India asking when I would like delivery!) apparently they are not responding to Paypals enquiries either. I hear that Dell staff are being told to take a weeks unpaid leave, maybe if they checked their emails occasionally they wouldn’t be in this position. I would never do business with them again.

Dell has already trimmed at least 8,800 jobs since last year, part of a program to eliminate $3 billion in annual costs by 2010.

On Aug. 28, Dell reported that second-quarter net income fell 17 percent to $616 million, trailing analysts’ projections. Dell cut its prices by an average of 7 percent in the period in an effort to take sales away from Palo Alto, California-based Hewlett-Packard.

Dell is reducing travel and spending in non-critical projects, Blackburn said. The company will also cut the number of contractors and temporary workers it uses. The program started yesterday and runs through Jan. 30, Blackburn said. He declined to make Dell’s memo public.

“There is no question that customers are spending less, but Dell is a strong company,” Dell said today in an interview.

Dell rose 32 cents, or 2.5 percent, to $12.93 at 4 p.m. New York time in Nasdaq Stock Market trading. The shares have fallen 47 percent this year.

    I can’t imagine why…………..

I have already had numeerous problems getting the DELL order to clear, finally doing so on the 10/11/08 when I was assured everything was fine and on the 12/11/08 my order was in the delivery stage.
The DELL site stated that Walsh Western would contact me BY PHONE to arrange a suitable delivery time and date. Low and behold it is now the 18/11/08 and they haven’t so much as contacted me. The online tracking system is a load of BS, stating useless information which some of is lies.
They managed to attempt a delivery on the 14/11/08 which was on the online tracking system, but no call, and even though I was there I never saw anyone attempting anything. Then on Monday (17/11) Dell rang saying Walsh Western could not find “building 1401″, when the idiots don’t realise thats a flat number within the building.
Still with no contact WHATSOEVER the online tracking system now states
“NO PRECALL 19/11/08 SCHEDULED DELIVERY DATE.”
I presume that’s when they will re-atteempt delivery, no doubt without phoning me. If it wasn’t that I saved so much on the system I ordered, I would have already cancelled this order.
    Walsh Western are useless.

No, but I am tempted to suggest that it could mean that they have a plan to deliver it but that you should be committed for expecting it to be carried out. The note is what they will claim to have left when they claim that you are out……….
Hopefully you will be luckier than me and most others posting on this site and might actually receive what you have paid for.
    Good luck!

BTW just got my refund from Dell (via paypal) for my cancelled order. 1 month after ordering it and after more hassle than is appropriate for such a seemingly simple transaction. No appology or even enquiry from Dell or WW as to why I cancelled the order so loss to them of £400 and I’ll be looking to spend this with another company in the January sales. I was hoping for a customer satisfaction survey to complete……….

Starting to get a little worried now… according to the WW tracking system my XPS hasn’t moved in 24 hours and its due for delivery am monday, there have been no updates since my last post.

Anyone know if they work weekends i.e Will my package continue on its journey over the weekend or am I looking at a delay?

Really hope this doesn’t affect my opinion on Dell, I’ve always had their machines in the past and can’t fault them, hope WW dont let them down this time…

I have given Dell 3 contact numbers and an E mail address and it results to postcards! also there were no calls missed!
I found this thread on google and worryingly decided to contact Walsh/Syncreon. I was releived to speak to an assistant who offered next day delivery am/pm. Friday 21st am was covienent and so it was booked. Tracker showed my call immediately and it was delivered Friday 11.43am.

Its a shame there has been so many bad reports of the carrier but if I had not picked up advice from this site, who knows how long the laptop would have been sat around.

IF THE CARRIERS COMMUNICATED PROPERLY WITH THE CUSTOMERS THERE WOULD BE FEWER COMPLAINTS!

    Hi Guys,

    As promised heres my update…

Laptop arrived at 10am this morning as promised by WW in their automated phone call last THursday, no issues with them finding my flat (and it is quite hard to find!) so all in all I’mm really happy.

As I said earlier I’ve had Dells all my life and once again they have come up with the goods, the delivery for me was fine, the laptop was built quickly and to a high standard and its a amazing machine (xps m1530).

Who knows maybe Dell have started to adress the recent delivery issues as it appears the last few posters on here have had no issues.

    Thanks for everyones help!

Don’t worry Syncreon are still totally rubbish.
A colleague took the automated phone call and ‘failed to make an appropriate response’ so despite the message saying my laptop would be delivered this morning they shifted the delivery to Friday PM.
When I called to find out why I had spent an entire morning waiting around they informed me the delivery had been changed. I asked at what point they were going to tell me the original had been cancelled and the date rearranged and they said they weren’t!!!!!!!
Totally blo**dy useless. Predictably no call back from a supervisor.
Called Dell and told them that their couriers were useless. Will NOT be recommending Dell to anyone not because they are poor (they have been impressive) but because they choose to use such an incompetent distributor.

If you’ve ordered a Dell and have set a delivery date with the spooky automated service, make a call and confirm it the day before if you can. They’ve been messing us around for a week since the date that the computer was supposed to be delivered and I’ve just gotten off of the phone with an operator who told me that our order has been delayed once again with no notice.

Both times I’ve talked to these people, they arrange for a manager to ring later rather than connecting me to someone immediately or giving me a number to call. If anyone manages to get any numbers to speak directly with managers, please post it here.

This is a Christmas gift–thank god we ordered it a month in advance. Here’s hoping it makes it soon.

Having heard nothing by 4pm I called Walsh Western and was told it would be with me by 5. At 5:45pm I called them again only to find out they’d gone home. By this stage I am ready to rip someone’s eyes out. After various phone calls I managed ot get the TNT tracking number and am now in contact with them. Their website tracker claims that they tried to deliver on a day when both my son and I were in teh house all day. We had not had any notice that they intended to deliver on the 7th - 5 days before Dell said it would be ready - nor have we heard anything else since. Useless bunch of cowboys who would have trouble finding their backsides with the aid of a map. I have told Dell I hold them accountable - they are the company I contracted with for the goods and it is their responsibility to make sure they are delivered.

Found this thread in December when checking out who Walsh Western were, after being given the link to their website by Dell for tracking delivery. Was very anxious on reading this initially, but feel I need to say in their defence, I have ordered two new Dell laptops recently, one in Dec and one last week. On both occasions, I gave my work address for delivery, as I knew no one would be at home; both times I’ve had an ansaphone message left at home to say when they would be delivered, this was also confirmed on their website and lo and behold, both times they have arrived within their time slots.

We have, over the years, also bought 4 desktop pcs from Dell too and they’ve always arrived on the expected day. We had nothing but trouble with pcs that we bought from PC World, whereas the Dells are pure reliability, we wouldn’t buy anything else now. Opinion therefore of Dell and Walsh Western seems to be very much divided depending on your personal experience.

I have just bought a computer from Dell and it arrived when Walsh Western said it would. I followed the order progress on their website. I gave an incorrect telephone on my original order to Dell, so as to be expected they failed to contact me by telephone presumably to confirm date of delivery, the order trail says they sent a postcard, which I did not receive.
Apart from this I see no problem with them, unlike some of the comments I have read.

DELL truly the worst computer company on planet Earth?!?”
    by apemantus - 1/15/09 11:38 AM

I paid for a computer and onsite technical support - that money left my account at the beginning of January. DELL then sent me a computer that did not work at all, turned on and started beeping and that was it. When I spent money telephoning technical support, they asked me to undo the machine as they would not call the engineer out until the problem was identified. Despite my payment for onsite support, this is clearly NOT onsite support so what did I pay for!? Finally, they agreed to send a replacement system. This system will arrive ONE MONTH after the original delivery should have been.

Therefore, because of Dell’s incompetence in sending me a faulty machine, I have paid money on telephone calls and I have lost a month when I could have been using the machine. Furthermore, for that month, Dell have had my money while I have had nothing but stress and
hassle. And then I received the following email.

    “Mr. ********,

This email is with reference to your complaint that reached our Corporate office. I understand that you had technical issues with the new computer which you purchased, however there is a replacement which is booked under order # **********, the estimated date on the order is on the 9th of February 2009. You can also have the status of the order checked on the Dell website. I understand that you would like to claim a monetary compensation for the time spent in having this issue, I’m sorry that we as a company do not offer compensation or good will to the customers.

Please contact me if you need further assistance in this matter. I would be more than glad to assist you.

    Thanks,

    Mangala Latha

What planet is DELL on? Their comment that they offer no good will is truly breathtaking! Customer service is NONEXISTENT. There is NO service.

Again I waited patiently for the 12th. On the 10/01/2009 the shipping date was pushed back again to 27/01/12 so I decided to call on 12/01 and cancel the order and was told that my credit card would be refunded within 3-5 working days. I checked the order status on 15/12/09 and was suprised to see that the order wasn’t cancelled but actually shipped to me on the date l cancelled the order even when they had changed the shipping date to 27/01/2009

Now i have just checked the order status and its saying that the ordered was delivered yesterday even when there was no one home the whole day and I have asked all my neighbours and no one received it. from my experience of working for the company that delivers the dells, it turns out that alot of people arn’t told the date to expect the parcel. also it is a right pain as there is nothing that we the delivery company can do to help alleviate a customers trouble as the contract we have with dell, states that we are not allowed to delivery to neighbours, or to different address without the express promission from dell.

my addres is find a neighbour who is in alot and when making the order when it asks for address online put down x or y ccc street, that way at least the driver can try a second address for you.

I know of no one called Donna and certainly nobody called here as I sat in the front of the house to make sure I didn’t miss them. I have even checked with the neighbours. According to Dell I am possibly not telling the truth. Syncreon totally uncontactable. Funny how my DHL delivery turned up exactly on time at the correct address. Looking at the number of complaints on this page it looks to me about time that Dell got its act together and found themselves a decent trustworthy delivery company. Can I suggest DHL. They have never let me down and have carried some valuable articles. So I see another wasted day tomorrow trying to get a refund for undelivered goods. Won’t hold my breath.

    22/01/09 09:21 PLAN COMMITTED NOTE.
Here’s my problem, they did call me on my mobile, but due to limited service where i am i only got the voicemail they left in the evening and all it said (only worked this out after a few times listening) was “your Dell order.” so i checked my dell account and it did say my laptop had been sent to WW. After this, i tried to return the call but the number was witheld so i am not too sure what is happening, hence why i am here.

    24/01/09 16:00 LODZ DEPARTED MANU.FACILITY

Now, unless they put an estimated time of when it will depart that is not correct. I checked this at around 12 noon. Now how can an item depart from the country 3 hours later than the time I have checked the status. I found this site and I was very shocked with all the comments of this courrier company. I was sort of skeptical when I even saw it was being delivered by I company I have never even heard of. As of now my estimated time for delivery by dell is the 9/2/09. I’m sort of worried. I just hope everything goes well for me. As I’m needing this laptop for college really soon. I’ll just keep posted on what happens. Wish me luck.

One of the reasons that I went back to Dell was their excellent delivery - last time. Back then, they even offered evening delivery at no extra cost. They seem to have gone from the best methods to the worst. I can’t be at home during the day in the week that they are proposing to deliver - but I need the computer by the end of the week. What usually happens in this case is that a card gets dropped through the letter box and I take the card to the local depot to pick the goods up. WW don’t allow that, apparently. The procedure is that they have to fail to deliver three times, then the computer goes back up to their hub and they contact Dell who then OK them to drive it back down south again and deliver to my workplace. I’ve spoken to Dell and WW and there’s apparently no way to circumvent this ridiculous waste of time and effort.

Just as a follow up - I just re-checked Walsh Western’s tracking page and it says that the goods were received by me on the 9th of Feb. Today is the 5th - and I won’t be there to receive them on the 9th. I’m getting worried about this whole thing.

I have same problem. Walsh western is really unprofessional and had to call 0871 number which costs 10 p a minute. Dell is not at all helpful finding the delivery although we have paid delivery charges.
There is no point waiting for their delivery. Just wait and see when it arrives.

Dell must be losing lot of customers with the idiot delivery company.

I’m with Pete here, I’ve just had really good service from Dell and Walsh Western. PC ordered and acknowledged on Wednesday, 4 Feb. Bizarre automated call from WW on Friday, 6 Feb to say it would be delivered Monday, 9 Feb between 8.00am and 1.00pm. Just had a knock at the door and there was my pc (Saturday, 7 Feb).
The driver decided to take a risk and deliver early because of the weather (snowy here in the UK). Now that’s what I call impressive.

I’ve been stuck at home waiting for the delivery, checked the status to discover ‘Misroute in Transit’, couldn’t find a contact number in their email, but did get one on a webpage complaining about their service. The ‘helpful’ voice at the end of their line explained my laptop wouldn’t be delivered today after all (some moron didn’t send it to the right location), and someone should be in tomorrow. My butler, perhaps? Serf? Personal servant? These people need to get their act together and realise we can’t all take days off work at their convenience!

According to the Walsh Western website; a card was left.
    There is no card.
It cost me a day off work.
I have complained to Dell demanding answers including a link to this page.
You would think one of the largest computer manufacturers in the world would ensure their choice of delivery company would be up to par.
This is a joke and has left a sour taste in my mouth. As an IT Manager, I will ensure from now on my purchases are with HP.

Yet another thoroughly dissatisfied Dell customer through their use of Walsh Western. Notified delivery would be between 0800 - 1300 09/02/09. Came 1500 I ‘phoned to see why no delivery and was told definitely be delivered by 1800 hrs. Of course it didn’t arrive. Have spent considerable sums in both time and money trying to establish new ETA and being promised on two occassions that I would be rung back with an answer. Of course this didn’t happen and when the last promised time of a call back passed I rang again - only to be told delivery expected between 0800 and 1800 tomorrow 11/02/09 which amounts to three completely easted days. If it is not here tomorrow I will cancel the order and attempt to seek damages.

Alot of people bashing Dell and couriers on here etc etc, get a life most of you have not a clue about the logistic process involved.

Syncreon is a shipping company that move the freight securly from a to b then contract it out to local delivery depots for end delivery, Buisness post would be a main one as has many hubs in the UK.

When people order goods from Dell they need to state if they have special delivery requirments.
This is when you have to point out if your hard of hearing, if your doorbell doesnt work, if your live on a flat with no number on the door, if you work 7 days a week and have no letterbox! etc etc you would be amazed by how many problems a delivery man can have with some people!

Dell usually offer an all day delivery yes thats from 8am till 6pm -

People order goods, dont leave contact numbers, enter wrong postcodes, leave off part of address, work all day with no-one at home, live in an unsecure area wher driver can get attacked, orders could face damage, misplaced, delays due to traffic, weather, accident, driver unaware of address, distant location, drivers dont carry around personal mobiles and call everyone on delivery would you?

I ordered twice from Dell inspiron laptop and Dell precession system both occasions i have had no problems with delivery, i made sure someone was available and left all contact details and did not expect a delivery from 2pm till 2.15 while i go to the shop!

Your ordering Dell because its the cheaper and better than most other products.
    well i do anyway.

of course some delivery companys are going to face problems they probably deal with over 3,000 boxes a day in some areas, if you dont get your goods then you will be refunded, or dell will re-book it for you, why get so worked up im sure the couriers or dell would be more than happy to set a delivery for you if you POINT THIS OUT ONCE YOU ORDER IT.

The delivery was scheduled with an automatic call, and then delivered by Business Post (http://www.ukmail.biz) at the time expected.

I suppose it all comes down to which sub-contracter you get at the final stage, but thought I’d better write a comment to try and balance all the negatives with a positive!

This whole delivery debacle would count heavily against me choosing Dell in the future although I have no problems with their computers.

  143. Mrs G said the following at February 13th, 2009 at 6:35 pm :

Once again Walsh Western have let me down. We’ve always had Dell computers & laptops and had no real problems but our latest order has been nothing but trouble. I’d forgotten that WW were unreliable with deliveries (had trouble several years ago)and hadn’t realised that Dell still used them until I got the automated phone call saying that delivery would be on Mon 9/2. I knew thwn taht nobody would be in but had to wait for them to leave a card with the phone no. to arrange redelivery. No reply on the only 0845 no. provided until Tues lunchtime when I arranged redelivery for Fri 13/2 8am - 1pm. In the meantime I received another automated message saying the second part of the order would come Thurs 12/2 (again not possible. Silly me then thought as they make a second attempt at delivery then All my order would come Friday. No chance!
NO delivery in morning, 2 boxes out of 5 arrived about 4pm. What use is a printer and mouse without the laptops? Driver wasn’t aware there should be 5, didn’t know where remaining 3 are. Again can’t contact WW as THEY WON’T ANSWER THEIR PHONE! The only contact no. I have is 0845 149 2138 (it’s their Croydon depot) - does anyone have another no. I can use?

  144. Colin said the following at February 21st, 2009 at 1:06 pm :

I agree with most of the above. Walsh Western service is rubbish.

Dell quite rightly insist on a signature from the customer when delivery is made. They completed assembly of my order last week. Fine so far.

Then I got three recorded messages on my ansafone from WW telling me to ‘Press 1′. They seemed to assume that a home customer would be waiting around in case they phoned. No phone number supplied, and no e-mail address. Reached carrier website through Dell, which said a postcard had been sent. Not received to date. Harrumph.

Now it states that they have decided, unilaterally, to deliver next Tuesday morning. Still no contact details given.

This company does not deserve to stay in business.

  145. Colin said the following at February 21st, 2009 at 7:52 pm :

Mrs G - I hope you probs are now sorted. If not I suggest an e-mail to customer services at WW, making sure you let them know you’re sending a copy to Dell HO at Bracknell. Don’t hold your breath for a response from Dell, but you’ll get a reply in due course from the subcontinent where there’s a whole department dedicated to such matters. But you’ll feel better, and who knows …

I notice that one contributor here describes the no doubt genuine logistical difficulties faced by carrier companies. Seems to me, though, that these are problems for them, not for the customer.

Another writer says (repeatedly)’Get a life’. It seems that he is happy to accept rubbish. I maintain, however, that if a customer is paying hundreds, or in some cases thousands, of £ (including a charge explicitly for delivery) then he/she has a right to expect good service.

Perhaps this is indicative of what is so often wrong with British companies - and we just accept it. I can only assume that WW has a watertight contract with Dell. Happily, though, I can compare and contrast with the exemplary service I continue to receive (for much less cash) from Amazon and certain other internet suppliers.

Excited I clicked on the link to take me to carrier- nothing. Put a search in for Walsh Western and got this forum. How long do you guys think I should expect to wait now??? Will I ever get my order???? Should I offer to go and pick it up myself on the bus? The suspense is killing me.

Silly me.

Finally, though, a courteous and apologetic Business Post driver made the delivery yesterday (Tuesday, @ 1520hrs), and it appears to be in good order.

    You absolute moron.

Firstly, it says on Dell’s website that it can take up to 15 days for you to receive your item - so if you were to receive it in under a week then you should be very thankful for that.
Second, I ordered a laptop last Wednesday and found Syncreon’s (formerly Walsh Western) track and trace site (with real time) extremely helpful.
When I was concered that they have my package but I hadn’t yet received a call to discuss a delivery date/time, I gave them a call. I was politely advised that an attempt had been made to contact me, but there was no answer. On that basis I was told they’d arranged delivery for the next day before 1.00. When did it arrive? The next day before 1.00.

Why, instead of moaning and thinking that you are being messed around, did you not just pick up your telephone and make contact with Syncreon? I’m sure had you of done this then Syncreon would have gladly contacted their 4th party delivery company to get them to sort out your problem.

How come someone can not call the couriers and ask them to bring the parcel back to them? And to mae matters worse, Dell says that the delivery guys will not ask for proof of ID. ‘Customer not home - card left’.
THAT IS A STRAIGHT LIE. Having rearranged my a.m. appts, I was phoned that morning and asked if I could accept delivery p.m. instead of a.m., due to a computer failure. I managed to find a window.

Laptop was showing as despatched from Dell to Walsh Western on Mon 23th. Showed up on Westerns track and trace on Thur 26th. In China. Arrived in Hinkley UK (about 200 miles away from where i live) on Fri 27th. Was despatched the same day, Fri, to my local Business Post depot. Checked Sat morning and it was showing as been received at the depot. Gave them a call to see if it would be possible to pick it up since i only lived around the corner. Said i could and the laptop was in my hands within half an hour of my phone call. The guy at Business Post was really friendly. Even gave us directions as they closed at 12pm and he didn’t want us to struggle to find the unit on the Industrial Estate. The box was in perfect condition. Laptop seems to be working find. All in all pretty happy though i doubt i will order anything else from Dell again. The wait is just abit too long for something i could have had in my hands 3 weeks ago.

Finally managed to get hold of someone at Walsh Western/Syncreon only to be informed that there’s a lot of traffic on the road today?! and it’s going to be tomorrow. Problem being that I have taken the day off work today to wait in for the delivery and am not off for another 7 days now also have missed a load of other stuff that needed doing today. A really shocking customer service if I’m honest.

Well I can only echo almost everything already posted here.

My Dell laptop is meant to be delivered by Walsh Western, and so far it seems the service is diabolical.

I have been tracking my order and according to the WW website it is ‘on hold’ at my local depot, and was due to be delivered this morning. Thankfully I chose not to take the day of work, and planned to just re-arrange the delivery for a day I was available.

So getting home today I expected to find a nice ’sorry we missed you’ note from Business Post (the company who were doing the actual delivery after it being passed onto them by WW) however I’ll be damned if there is anything! What happened to my expected delivery date of today?

I just checked my voicemail on my home phone to find I’d been left a message by some nice lady in Milton Keynes working for Business Post telling me my package had been delayed, and was caught up in Milton Keynes. What the bloody hell happened to it being ‘on hold’ in my local depot, just 20 minutes away?

I know it’s not exactly something to worry about too much, but it frustrates me greatly to be fed a load of false information when it is clearly not true, and I can understand that it would be even worse for the people who took a day off work to receive they’re delivery, to find it’s actually still on the other side of the country. I would have expected such a big company like Dell to use a better courier than this uselss Walsh Western.

Well, yes, no doubt 95% of deliveries are achieved on schedule (is that regarded as good enough?), but baving been let down badly on delivery for the 2nd time in less than 18mths, my small company will no longer order from Dell unless they are prepared to use a different carrier. On the firms behalf I have tried to take this up with Dell but only got the usual bromide. The problem is that we used to buy from HP, until we found that whilst delivery was dependable their after sales service was diabolical.
Perhaps Dell think they are too big to worry about small cos. Maybe they’ve forgotten what happened to IBM, another arrogant company. Or is someone on a bung?

  162. John said the following at March 12th, 2009 at 11:47 am :

Well another victim, but of Dell not WW.

WW has not received all the packages, Dell says all packages have been sent. This has been going on for a week.

After £15+ of 0870/0871 calls, of menus and call transfers, I say enough is enough and ask to cancel the order. I apparently cannot according to Dell, and must pay for delivery, even though nothing has been delivered. Apparently it is my responsibility to call the carrier and make sure they collect all the items from Dell. Sigh..

I asked that I want to raise a formal complaint. “Dell does not handle complaints.” !!!

So called WW to inform them not to deliver it, even if they do receive it.

I am now proceeding to get a refund through the credit card company.

Attempted to be a first time Dell customer, never ever, ever, EVER again will I be even looking at Dell’s website. Hardly surprised to see them falling from Nr 1 to Nr 3.

To future and potential Dell customers, either get their addon support packages, or stay far far away. Those value added support packages are what other retailers offer as standard.

You could always pray that everything goes perfectly! ;)
